Independence Steel was incorporated in 2012. What makes our company special is our founder and owner/President Michael Tierney. Mike started out in the steel business as a Union Iron Worker out of the Philadelphia local. After receiving a degree in Civil Engineering from Temple University he left the field and explored other options only to return to the steel industry several years later. After over 16 years of gaining experience in all aspects of the steel business he went out on his own. What started as a one-man office in 2012 has grown into a large corporation.
After several years of working with the owners of XLE Metals Mike purchased the company in 2015. XLE Metals is a signatory structural and miscellaneous metals erector. We are fortunate to have a core group of dedicated Iron Workers working for us at XLE Metals. XLE is an Advanced AISC Certified Erector.
Jonasz Precast Erectors was purchased in 2020 and adds a new dimension to what we can offer to our clients. Our Jonasz Precast Team is composed of Union Iron Workers, Masons, and Laborers who take pride in their work. Jonasz Precast is a PCI Certified Erector.
As our three companies work together to complete the needs of our clients, we felt it was time to join forces. As of 2023 XLE Metals and Jonasz Precast Erectors are now Independence Erectors.
This latest change in our company structure will enable us to ensure our clients needs are handled in the most efficient manner, taking care of the projects needs from start to finish.

Safety remains our company’s top priority.
Our Health and Safety Team is inclusive of all companies and is managed by a small group of dedicated professionals. Our team is constantly looking for ways to improve safety through prevention and self-awareness. Our employees are at the core of our Safety Program. They are valued as individuals and provided with the necessary tools and training to work safely so they return home to those who count on them daily.
As well as the required weekly toolbox talks and specific job site requirements we go above and beyond in encouraging our employees to work safe and keep an eye out for one another. Our regular employees receive Safety Education daily through an app-based program. We believe these frequent short trainings will increase safety awareness.
Our Safety Team includes a Registered Nurse who is available to share significant health and safety education as well as teach and certify our employees in the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED class.
We are honored to be a recipient of the 2022 AISC Safety Award of Honor.
